Burrata Salad

Burrata Salad is a fresh, creamy, and vibrant dish that combines soft burrata cheese with heirloom tomatoes, peppery arugula, fresh basil, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze. Perfect as an appetizer, side, or main course, this salad offers a delightful balance of indulgence and freshness, ideal for any meal or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Cheese

  • Fresh Burrata Cheese (approx. 4-6 oz or 2 balls)

Vegetables & Greens

  • Heirloom Tomatoes (2-3 medium, mixed colors and varieties)
  • Fresh Arugula or Mixed Greens (4 cups, washed and dried)
  • Fresh Basil Leaves (about 1/4 cup, torn)

Dressings & Seasonings

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (2-3 tablespoons, for drizzling)
  • Balsamic Glaze (1-2 tablespoons, for drizzling)
  • Sea Salt (to taste)
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Wash and dry the heirloom tomatoes thoroughly. Slice them into bite-sized wedges or rounds to highlight their vibrant colors. Also wash and gently pat dry the arugula or mixed greens to maintain their crispness.
  2. Arrange the Base: Spread the arugula evenly on a large serving platter or individual plates, forming the base layer. Arrange the tomato slices artfully over the greens, creating a balanced mixture of colors and textures.
  3. Add the Burrata: Tear or place whole burrata balls on top of the arranged tomatoes and greens. Ensure the burrata is at room temperature so it is creamy and easy to spread when served.
  4. Drizzle and Season: Generously drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the salad, followed by a stream of balsamic glaze. Sprinkle sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper evenly across the entire dish to enhance its natural flavors.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Finish by scattering fresh basil leaves over the salad to add aromatic herbal notes. Serve the salad immediately to enjoy the best contrast of fresh and creamy textures.

Notes

  • Choose fresh burrata as close to serving time as possible for optimal creaminess.
  • Let burrata rest at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before serving for enhanced texture.
  • Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil with fruity notes for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of balsamic glaze to balance sweetness and tanginess without overpowering.
  • Serve immediately after assembly to maintain freshness of cheese and greens.
