Strawberry Cream Cheese Danishes are flaky, buttery pastries filled with rich cream cheese and fresh strawberries. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or entertaining guests, this quick and easy recipe combines simple pantry ingredients to create an elegant, delicious treat with a shiny golden crust and customizable fruity fillings.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry Base

  • Ready-made puff pastry (thawed)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fruit Topping

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy. In a separate bowl, toss chopped strawberries with lemon juice to keep them fresh and reduce excess moisture.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry: Thaw puff pastry according to package directions. Lightly flour your work surface and roll the pastry gently into a 12 by 9 inch rectangle, making it easier to cut into squares.
  3. Assemble the danishes: Cut the pastry into approximately 4×4 inch squares. Place a generous dollop of the cream cheese filling in the center of each square, then add a spoonful of the strawberry mixture on top. Fold the corners toward the center or use classic danish folds to enclose the filling.
  4. Brush with egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the surface and edges of each danish to ensure a shiny, golden-brown finish and proper sealing.
  5. Bake to perfection: Arrange the danishes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden and puffed. Watch carefully to prevent overbrowning.
  6. Add finishing touches: Allow danishes to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey/maple syrup for a classic bakery appearance.

Notes

  • Keep puff pastry chilled until assembly to ensure optimal puffing in the oven.
  • Drain excess juice from strawberries thoroughly to avoid soggy danishes.
  • Do not overfill the danishes to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Oven temperatures vary; check danishes starting at 15 minutes for best results.
  • Brushing egg wash on edges helps seal the pastry and enhances browning.
