Spaghetti Grilled Cheese

Spaghetti Grilled Cheese

Spaghetti Grilled Cheese is a delicious fusion of two classic comfort foods—grilled cheese sandwich and spaghetti—combining gooey melted cheese, perfectly toasted bread, and savory al dente spaghetti. This unique yet simple recipe offers a perfect balance of crunchy and soft textures, quick preparation, customizable flavors, and a great way to reinvent leftover spaghetti into a satisfying meal anyone can enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices of sturdy white or sourdough bread
  • 1 cup cooked spaghetti, drained and al dente
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar, or a blend)
  • 2 teaspoons butter or olive oil

Optional Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons marinara sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning or fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Cook spaghetti until al dente, then drain well to avoid sogginess. Grate or slice the cheese. Gather bread slices, butter or olive oil, and any optional toppings.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Butter one side of each bread slice. Place one slice butter-side-down on a skillet. Layer cheese first, add a thin layer of spaghetti (optionally spread some marinara sauce on the spaghetti), top with more cheese, then place the second bread slice butter-side-up on top.
  3. Cook Until Golden and Melty: Cook on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even grilling and to keep the spaghetti tucked inside. Flip carefully to brown both sides evenly.
  4. Serve Immediately: Once the grilled cheese is golden brown and the cheese inside is melted and gooey, transfer it to a plate and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Don’t overload with spaghetti to prevent messiness and difficulty flipping.
  • Use a nonstick pan for the perfect golden crust without tearing bread.
  • Cook on medium-low heat to melt cheese thoroughly without burning the bread.
  • Press gently with a spatula or panini press, avoiding squashing the filling.
  • Let the sandwich rest for a minute before cutting to help cheese set slightly.
