Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and egg. Mix well until creamy and fully integrated. Stir in the vanilla extract for extra flavor.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents.
  4. Blend Wet and Dry Mixtures: Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet peanut butter mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies tender.
  5. Shape Cookies: Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto your prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Press each ball gently with a fork to create the classic crisscross pattern.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are set and slightly golden while the centers remain soft. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Measure flour correctly: Use the spoon-and-level method to avoid dense cookies caused by too much flour.
  • Chill the dough: If time allows, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes to 1 hour for thicker, chewier cookies.
  • Use natural peanut butter: For best flavor and texture, choose peanut butter with minimal added oils or sugars.
  • Don’t overbake: Remove cookies when edges look set but centers are still soft; they’ll firm up as they cool.
  • Add sea salt on top: A tiny sprinkle of flaky sea salt before baking enhances the sweet and salty contrast beautifully.
