Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup milk, warmed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt

Maple Pecan Glaze

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup chopped pecans, toasted

Additional Ingredients for Assembly

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (for spreading)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Additional ground cinnamon for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk slightly and dissolve the active dry yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let it bloom until frothy, about 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, cinnamon, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Add softened butter. Gradually pour in the yeast mixture and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1½ hours.
  2. Make the Maple Pecan Glaze: While the dough is rising, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in maple syrup and brown sugar until fully combined and the mixture slightly thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and fold in the toasted chopped pecans, ensuring an even coating. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a large rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar all over the buttered dough. Roll the dough tightly into a log starting from one edge. Slice the log into even rolls about 1½ inches thick. Dip each slice carefully into the maple pecan glaze to coat before placing into a greased baking dish, arranging them close together.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Let the rolls rest in the baking dish for 15 minutes to rise slightly again. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and the glaze is bubbly. Remove from oven and let cool slightly so the glaze sets before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast and bloom it properly for the best rise.
  • Toast pecans just before use to maximize nutty flavor.
  • Roll dough evenly for consistent texture and baking.
  • Use room-temperature eggs, butter, and milk for better dough rise.
  • Butter the baking pan well to prevent sticking and help caramelize glaze.
