Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (use gluten-free tamari if needed)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp water (adjust as needed)

For Cooking & Garnish

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently just until combined to keep meatballs tender and juicy.
  2. Form and Brown the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into even 1-inch meatballs. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides until golden but not fully cooked.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a separate pan, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ketchup or tomato paste, and water. Heat gently until the sauce thickens slightly and turns glossy.
  4. Simmer Meatballs in Sauce: Transfer browned meatballs to the sauce pan. Simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, allowing meatballs to finish cooking and soak in the flavors.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions on top for freshness and color. Serve warm directly from the pan.
