Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Base

  • 4 store-bought or homemade cinnamon rolls

French Toast Batter

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (dairy or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons butter (or coconut oil for dairy-free)

Optional Toppings and Garnishes

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Cream cheese glaze or simple powdered sugar glaze
  • Chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts)
  • Fresh fruit (berries, sliced bananas, apples)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cinnamon Rolls: Slice the cinnamon rolls into small, bite-sized cubes to ensure they coat and cook evenly without falling apart.
  2. Mix the French Toast Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined. This mixture will flavor and soak the cinnamon roll pieces.
  3. Soak the Cinnamon Roll Pieces: Submerge the cut cinnamon roll cubes into the egg mixture, coating each piece well but avoiding oversaturation. Let soak approximately 30 seconds per side.
  4. Cook the Bites: Heat butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the soaked pieces carefully and cook 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp.
  5. Finish and Serve: Transfer cooked bites to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess butter. Serve warm, optionally topped with glaze, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, or fresh fruit.

Notes

  • Use day-old cinnamon rolls for better soaking and to avoid mushiness.
  • Control soaking time carefully to prevent pieces from falling apart during cooking.
  • Cook in batches to allow enough space in the pan for even cooking and browning.
  • Cook over medium or medium-low heat to ensure the centers warm through without burning the outsides.
  • Add a homemade glaze like cream cheese icing for enhanced flavor and presentation.
