Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Cheese Filling

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded melting cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water and let it bloom for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until you have a smooth, elastic dough. Cover and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Divide and Roll: Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and divide it into equal portions based on the desired size of your flatbreads. Roll each portion on a floured surface into a small circle about 6-8 inches in diameter.
  3. Add the Cheese Filling: Sprinkle your chosen shredded cheese generously over one half of each dough circle, leaving a small margin at the edges. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly to seal tightly, preventing any cheese from leaking during cooking.
  4. Cook the Flatbread: Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil. Carefully place one stuffed flatbread in the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese inside has melted. Repeat with remaining flatbreads.
  5. Serve Warm: Transfer the cooked Cheese Stuffed Flatbreads to a plate and serve immediately to enjoy their melty texture and warm, cheesy flavor.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help the yeast activate fully and ensure proper dough rise.
  • Seal the edges tightly by crimping to avoid cheese oozing out during cooking.
  • Avoid overloading with cheese to prevent sogginess or difficulty flipping.
  • Cook on medium heat to allow cheese to melt fully without burning the flatbread.
  • Let the dough rest after kneading to improve texture and make rolling easier.
