Ingredients

Scale

Steak

  • 1-inch thick ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon steak (1 per serving)

Seasonings

  • Coarse or kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for brushing (about 1 teaspoon per steak)
  • Garlic powder (optional, 1/4 teaspoon)

Finishing

  • Butter (optional, 1 tablespoon per steak)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Steak: Bring your steak to room temperature to ensure even cooking. Pat it dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove moisture. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil, then season generously with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and any additional spices or herbs you prefer, such as garlic powder.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (204°C) and allow it to preheat for about 5 minutes. This high heat is essential for creating a savory crust without overcooking the inside.
  3. Cook the Steak: Place the steak in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it to preserve proper air circulation. Cook for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on thickness and preferred doneness, flipping once halfway through to ensure even browning. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness: 125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, and 145°F for medium.
  4. Rest and Finish: Remove the steak from the air fryer and place it on a plate. Let it rest for 5 to 7 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute evenly. While resting, optionally add a pat of butter on top for added richness and flavor.

Notes

  • Dry the steak completely before seasoning to achieve a better sear and crust.
  • Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking or undercooking your steak.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure the steak crisps evenly on all sides.
  • Flip the steak only once during cooking for uniform browning.
  • Rest the steak after cooking to retain juices and maximize tenderness.
  • Add butter last while resting to achieve a rich, glossy finish.
